2. Galvanising Garvald

From about July 2019 we are seeking an Enterprise Manager who will support increased trading activity following current works on the dairy and meat processing areas at the farm. ENTERPRISE MANAGER JOB DESCRIPTION

Reporting to                       Garvald Home Farm Management Committee

The Enterprise Manager post will be required towards the end of  building work on the internal structures for the meat/dairy areas, estimated at July 2019.

Job Purpose

  • To support the development of increased social enterprise trading activity as a result of the increased capacity of the meat and dairy areas.
  • To explore both the capacity for creating new products (eg burgers, sausages, cheese, yoghurt) and the local markets for them.
  • To work with Build Manager to ensure that walls, surfaces, floors, lighting, drainage and all other technical aspects of the proposed meat and dairy facilities are both fit for purpose and comply with all relevant Environmental Health, Health and Safety, and Fire precaution guidelines.

Main responsibilities                    

  • Work to develop the operational aspects of the business plan related to the meat and dairy aspects of the farm, working with the existing team to maximise opportunities within the biodynamic ethos of the farm.
  • Liaise with Build Manager.
  • Support the Garvald Home Farm team with any other related activities such as fundraising, marketing, promotion etc

THE FOLLOWING POST HAS BEEN FILLED

We have a vacancy for a part time maintenance person. We are looking for a friendly, cheerful person to work one day a week in collaboration with the staff group to keep the premises safe and in a good state of repair. A large part of the job will be testing the fire system and spring water system, recording the results and taking remedial actions if necessary.

The ideal applicant would have experience and skills in basic maintenance; plumbing, joinery etc and enjoy working with and around other people.

Due to our location the successful applicant needs to have a full driving licence and their own transport. The post would be subject to a disclosure with Disclosure Scotland.

WORK EXPERIENCE OPPORTUNITIES AT GARVALD HOME FARM

Garvald Home Farm does have limited opportunities for friendly, enthusiastic, young people to have a period of work experience or “practicum”.

We can only accept applications from people who will be over the age of 16 when they come to stay.

Accommodation is very basic; it may be a caravan. The work is hard and challenging and the weather may be wet and cold.
